ZLRC

Background

Zanzibar Law Resource Centre (ZLRC) is a public institution, under the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, with the mandate to provide training, research and advice on legal matters to professional lawyers, public officers and the general public. ZLRC was created by the Act No. 2 of 2010 under section 22 (2) (d). The institution formally established in July 2011 has an overall objective of promoting and strengthening effective and efficient performance in the administration of criminal justice in Zanzibar. The institute was granted registration by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) in 2013.

The Zanzibar Law Resource Centre (ZLRC) is currently situated at Mwanakwerekwe Kificho Building Zanzibar. The premises of the Centre are indeed quite conducive for the purpose of higher learning, with tranquil learning environment and easy accessibility to various parts of Zanzibar, in terms of public transport and other academic related facilities

The Centre’s strategic plan articulated establishment of long-term training programmes which started at the end of 2013. Programmes include: Basic Technician Certificate in Law, Technician Certificate in Law and Ordinary Diploma in Law. The Centre also offers various short term professional programmes in law for public officers and other stakeholders.
